how unlucky can I get? This morning I got stuck inside the Ft. Mc Henry Tunnel for 90 minutes. That's right, an hour and a half of my life wasted in the tunnel. About twenty cars in front of me, there was some bad accident which closed right tunnel. I was about a 100 yards to my exit. If only I was 10 seconds earlier. At least I wasn't aprt of the accident.

Coming home today, it took me twice as long cos there was another accident on i95. 3 of the 4 lanes closed. fun day.

the only consolation I have is that LOST season 3 is back on tomorrow.

why did licke try to pry open that door? why did he think they were trapped. then after his leg got crushed under that door, he all of a sudden asked "henry Gale" to go thru the air ducts to get to the other side. Why didn't he just go thru the air ducts in the first place.

Ok and the next episode suggests that Henry Gale isnt really Henry Gale. Not so fast, it can still be him. Two scenarios:

his wife really is his partner, who happens to be another Henry Gale.
the Henry Gale in the grave is his long lost twin (named Henry and may he spelles his as Henri) only the dead guy is black.

GMA's declaration of State of emergency has a lot of people shaking their heads, including me. Although I wasn't alive yet when Marcos declared Martial Law, I hear striking similarities. I am halfway around the world but still totally appalled at the corruption in Philippine politics. The thing is, corruption in the Philippines is a given. Did you hear that the solons are "generously" donating from their porkbarrels to the Leyte mudslide vicitms. My goodness, the pork barrel is not theirs to donate- it's the people's money. They need to donate from their own bank accounts. If their is one thing wrong with the Philippine situation, it's not the President (who I think should step down for loss of credibility) who has lost control and is resorting to desperate measures, it's the mindset of everyone who accept corruption as normal way of life for those who abuse their power.

Lost show's Sawyer's real side

One has to wonder why all of a sudden Sawyer switched from being like-able to totally evil in a matter of a quarter of an episode. Is it because the fans are clamoring for a Jack - Kate tandem and feel like Sawyer being too nice might end up with Kate? Maybe the writers realized that and decided to make Sawyer's evil side come up to change up the love connections. I don't know, but one thing's for sure, last night's episode had me wishing for more Lost!!

It was a great birthday. The skins won on Sunday to get into the playoffs. I was nervously watching the first half as the skins struggled. It looked like there was gonna be na upset but the Skins D pulled through. With 3 crucial takeaways. Hail to the Redskins.

I watched the apprentice finale last night. I was disappointed that Randal was hired over Rebecca. I thought Randal committed a mortal sin when he planned an outdoor event, with no plan B for rain. It did rain alright, and his team had to organize on the fly with no plan. I thought, he could've done better by having an alternative. On the other hand, I thought Rebecca managed her task well and really did great under pressure, never fazed by hurdles in front of her.

Furthermore, after Trump hired Randal. Trump was clearly fond of the two finalists and was ready to hire both. He asked Randal, if he were Trump, would he hire Rebecca too. Randal flatly said no. And the boos from the crowd came, rightfully so. Randal's integrity sunk to an all time low with his selfishness.

snow this morning wasn't that bad. Maybe about 4 inches. However my snow blower choked. We got heavy, as in 'packed' snow, and my snow blower couldn't carry the weight. I had to shovel the old fashioned way and it took me an hour to finish the sidewalk and half the drive way. I'm just hoping the rest of the snow melts during the day but that's unlikely.

On a bright note, traffic was light this morning, probably cos everyone else was afraid of snow.

Funny post at CL, under the FREE section. Free snow, pickup at the driveway, first come first served. It also looks like the people at CL don't have a sense of humor coz the posting was deleted.

Michael Lee: Everybody is concerned with Kwame. Okay, I'll answer another question about him. No, he has not had any bouts of the "stomach flu" (yet) and he hasn't thought about slapping the [snot] out of Kobe (yet) and he isn't in the doghouse (yet). Brown, however, does have a hamstring injury that his kept him out the past three weeks. He was originally supposed to return last week and Jackson said recently that he jokingly questions Kwame's toughness on a daily basis. We'll see if Phil's tough love can work when Michael's couldn't.

Michael Lee: No. It's not. The Wolves aren't going to move Garnett. I begged them to make a move a few weeks ago, because I just think it's a shame that he has to languish in Minnesota, where he won't have a legit shot at a title for several years. I suggested a package "including" those pieces, but it would take more. To land Garnett, it would have to take another franchise type player, a starter, some draft picks and probably Shaq's children. But even then, it doesn't sound like Minnesota is going to move him. That's good for Minnesota, but is sure is fun to dream and speculate.

Baltimore, Md.: I've only watched a couple of games, and I'm really not that familier with Antonio Daniels from last year. But from what I've seen this year, Daniels is far from a solid replacement for Hughes. He seems to throw a lot of bricks and make those lazy bounce passes that end up getting stolen. My question is, was Antonio Daniels playing like this last year or is he jsut struggling?
Ivan Carter: Daniels has struggled badly, especially since he was moved out of the starting lineup a few games ago. There are times when he looks out of sync and not all that confident. I do think that he'll get it going though because he had a great season with Seattle last year, he's a vet and he busts his tail in practice and before games. Like Chucky in Detroit, he just needs a breakout game where he can catch his breath and say: "OK, I got it."

what's the deal with Lost being on Christmas vacation. The next new episode isn't until January 11. Maybe it's time for me to catch up on the first season. Altho, I've already read about all the episodes, and I know what already happened so it won;t be exciting for me to watch old episodes.

In any case, I'm still hooked. At the end of last night's show, Michael wa chatting with someone on the computer which I think could be Walt. Could it be, that the Others (I assume they have Walt) have a computer of their own. The storyline is so out of this world that you get hooked just trying to figure out what's happening.

while in manila, we were able to catch a lot of artists/ bands play LIVE. It was great, here's the list:

Isha - my classmate at Sophia University in Tokyo. It was no surprise that she's made it all the way to the top. This girl has got talent.
Bamboo - Astig. Seeing this band again, and in the Philippines was amazing. I was in the car with Nathan on the way to the concert, and a schoolbus full of kids recognized him and was screaming at the car holding up signs. They're really BIG over there, it's crazy.
Makopa - great blues sound...
Dong Abay - well ok, I was in the patio at Saguijo when they played so technically I didnt see them, but I did hear Dong Abay sing Banal Na Aso.
Radioactive Sago Project - the more I listened to their CD the more I dig their music. Gin Pomelo! Guitars and drums were out of this world.
Kinky Hooters - ok, I didnt dig these guys too much, maybe because the singer said 'Pare' like 3x in a sentence, or maybe because they opened with an Incubus cover, or maybe it was because the vocalist was jumping all over the stage while holding his pants to keep them from falling.
Join The Club - amazing show, they had great energy. They had a full sound, and all the musicians were in synch. one of the best live bands I saw during the trip.
Stone Free - not too crazy about these guys. the music was so-so.
Session Road - great tunes, I still hum to 'Suntok sa Buwan' in my head.
Rock Steady - forgettable.
Kitchie Nadal - I was disappointed, there wasn't much energy to the show, and it seemed that she had a session drummer who couldn't keep in pace - not sure... I just expected more from her.
Barbie Almalbis - Great set. She really connected with the crowd. She did a fantastic rendition of the Eraserheads' Overdrive-- and it drove the crowd crazy. Great job.
The Speaks- great show. I just thought the audience here in the US was more into their shows than the Pinoy audience at their concert. They still rocked though.

back from pinas

sorry for the late post, we've been back (From the Philippines) since las Saturday. I've been suffering from jet lag and sheer exhaustion that I hacn't been able to blog.

lesson learned from the trip- don't travel with kids. I swore I was ready to jump off the plane on the way to Manila. Ian was crying/complaining half of the 18 hour flight.

the whole vacation was a blast. The 3 weeks ended oh so quickly, but we did have tons of fun. we ate as much Pinoy food as we liked, met up with friends and family, and we did some shopping.

i'll post pictures sometime...when i get to it.

A loss is a loss, but I'd have to say, the skins' offense has been loking good. The skins dominated denver yesterday. It was just unfortunate that we lost the game by 2 points. If not for at least one of these factors, we would've won the game:

vacation mode

ok, it's still a week away before we leave for the Philippines. We are definitely excited, but at the same time I am dreading that 20 hour flight with 2 grumpy kids. I don't know how Nico and Ian will react to 20 hours on the plane. I hope they sleep through the whole flight but that is wishful thinking. My only weapon is a portable dvd player. Even with that, the battery wil only get us 7-10 hours, and the kids don't like wearing headphones. Any suggestions to keep the kids busy?

Skins' incredible mnf win

Sorry for the late post, I didnt have time to write about this yesterday as I was busy relishing the win. and what an unbelievable win. The usually stoic Gibbs was all smiles and was beaming as they doused him with the gatorade bucket. Dan snyder was rejoicing in abandon inside his booth. it was a sight worth only of superbowl victories. and why not? the skins came back from 13-0 with 4 minutes to go and scored a 41 yd TD on 4th and 15, to close the gap at 13-7. then held Dallas to a 3and out, and on the second play of the next drive, scored a 70 yd TD to take the lead at 13-14. It was a crazy night. I almost went to bed in the third qtr. as the Skins offense struggled mightily once more. I was seeing flashbacks of the 2004 season and was asking myself why am I wasting my time. I was sure glad I stayed up to the end. This improbable victory was the nfl game of the decade.

ok, so history is not on our side. But tonight's MNF game against Dallas is a big one. If we win, I think it will set the tone for the rest of the season. If we lose, fans will question the QB switch big time. Honestly, I think we have a smaller chance at winning, but hey anything can happen.

skins win opener...but..

Skins with the 2005 opener (as they have the past 4 years) but it seems like we're the same team from last year. The offense only mustered 3 field goals. Ramsey looked shaky (1int, 2 fumbles) before he got pummeled to the the turf with a vicious clothesline. Brunell played safe, altho he did have that INT that was called back (luckily). A win is a win, although I'm quite scared of how the season will pan out, but Mike Wilbon sums it up in aswering this question:

I think Joe Gibbs is somewhat timid when it comes to making the unpopular decision. He got what he wanted with a Ramsey injury and took the chance to put Brunnel in the game.
However, I think most fans feel a little uneasy about the play calling and Brunell's inability to lead this team. Not to mention Ramsey's shakiness as well.
My question...if Ramsey was ok to play yesterday why didn't Joe put him back in. Had the Cooley td never been called back Ramsey may have had a decent game.
So who should start? Does Ramsey deserve another chance to start or is he done for the season after a quarter and a half?

Michael Wilbon: Okay, we're going to deal with this Redskins QB situation right here and now. For starters, I don't think Brunell vs. Ramsey is a quarterback controversy. THAT, boys and girls, is a quarterback dilemma. Neither guy has eanred benefit of the doubt. If you're ranking the quarterbacks in the NFL Ramsey/Brunell would be in the bottom seven or eight, right? So the controversy is that the Redskins don't have a quarterback that can lead a team to the playoffs, despite a stout line and two very, very good running backs, an H-back everybody seems to love...Okay, the receivers aren't going to make you forget Art Monk...but they might be okay, or a little bit better than okay. I think it's the quarterbacks...not the system, not Gibbs willingness to gamble going down the field...The QBs. That's what I think is wrong with the offense. And no, Gibbs didn't want to put Ramsey back in the game, even though he physically could have gone back in. And why would Gibbs want Ramsey back in? Here were the way his three series ended against the Bears: interception/fumble recovered by teammate/fumble lost. I'm not sure whose QB is worse, the Redskins or the Ravens...Having said that, I have no expectation whatsoever that Brunell will do anything much against the Cowboys in Dallas Monday night.

scary situation last night.

It all started when Ian woke up with his right eye puffy. I just discarded it as maybe he just slept in the wrong position. Gayette was telling me it looked like an allergic reaction. By the afternoon, the right eye swelling had subsided, and it sort of moved to the left eye. Still, it did not look like a cause for concern.

I got Ian ready for bed and I was in the room with him waiting for him to go to sleep. He was being his usual jolly self, playing with his books and drinking water from his sippy cup. The sun had already set, the light was off in his room so I could hardly see his face. But in a split second, I kind of saw a shadow on his lip from that didnt seem normal. He was still acting normal, so I was second guessing myself if maybe I was just imagining things or maybe the the lack of lighting just kind of made Ian's lips bigger. Anyway, I turned on the night light and to my horror, both Ian's upper and lower lips were swollen beyond anything I could have imagined. More swollen than a clown's lips at a circus.

I frantically yelled and called Gayette and she was equally shocked at the sight, and within 5 minutes we were able to give him Benadryl and leave for the emergency room at Franklin Square Hospital. Ian was breathing normally so that was good. Upon arrival at the ER, the triage nurse immediately brought us in upon seeing Ian's lips. And quickly, Ian was given shots, IV, more benadryl, monitoring stuff taped to his body-- which Ian did not like one bit. We were told that we did a good job by initially giving Benadryl, because with swollen lips, they fear that the tongue may get swollen too and lead to choking. Thank God that did not happen.

After four hours, his swelling only subsided a bit, so the doctor was contemplating on admitting at another hospital (because their pediatric floor was already full) for more observation. However, they decided to give Ian another shot of epi pen and wait some more. Thankfully Ian's lips had gone back to almost normal after 7 hours. We were discharged from the ER at 4:30 am, and Ian was visibly tired from the whole ordeal. We still have to observe him for the next couple of days and administer more medication round the clock and check him every two hours at night to make sure his lips don't swell again.

The suspects are ginger, some mixed crackers which Tita Baby gave him, or berry juice. We still don't know but we'll schedule a visit with the allergist and find out more. We will also make sure that we introduce him to new foods slowly.

I'm just glad that I decided to turn on the night light to check on him, otherwise I may not have noticed his swollen lips and he may have gone to sleep with it, which could have been disastrous. Truly Ian's guardian angels were around to protect him, praise God.

Nunyo Demasio: Funny. Speaking of Coles, he's had a strong preseason. He'll have a 1,000-yard season with the Jets, putting an end to all this hullabaloo about his toe. I didn't buy the stuff about diminished explosiveness. How can you tell if a guy is less explosive if you don't run a go route all season. Coles has great chemistry with Chad Pennington. They make each other better.

last night, while the garage door was open, an amphibian of the slimy kind hopped inside the garage. I was carrying Ian at that time and I didn't have time to kick it out of the premises. This now poses a HUGE problem....I am petrified of frogs. I just hate their uncanny leaping ability and their slimy exterior, they're just plain kadiri. Now I don't know how I can go into the garage, not knowing if the slimy creature is lurking behind me, waiting to pounce when I least expect it......

we just finished the bamboo show last weekend and it was a blast. It was also exhausting like crazy. I'm back at work now, I dropped off the band at the airport, as they're headed back to California.

thanks to happy box and goma soul for making this event possible. thanks to the bionic leg crew for the hard work (tito deleon, katrina galsim, mico sanchez, andrew sanchez). Major props to all the opening bands- ask for megan, breakdown, nerojoc, the moonbugs, the third element and the speaks.

thanks to all the 3E fans for your support (gayette, grace, florrey, rick, chichi, stephen, rina, deisree, chrissy, joe, phil, irene, patty, erwin, pami, jopet, macky, alvin, etc...you know who you are).

of course, thanks to bamboo, nathan, vic, ira and pancho for a great show and a great time hanging out.

almost a bad week

it was almost the start of a bad week for me yesterday. I misplaced my speedpass yesterday morning, and I frantically wasted 30 minutes looking for it before I left for work. If I didn't find it, it meant long lines at the tunnel toll lanes until I get a new one... and I didn't find it. That's $4.00 of tolls in one day instead of $0.80. And when I got to work, I found out that what I had been working on the past few days wouldn't work because of the amount of data involved, so I would have to re-design my process all over. It was just getting worse.

However, towards the end of the day, I was able to find a better solution to my sheer data volume, and I would not have to do any more re-designing. And when I got home, I found my speedpass (luckily I hadn't cancelled my account yet). It was hiding under the comforters where Nico slept, I must've dropped it when I said goodbye to him in the morning. And, I got a call for an order of 5-15 more Bamboo tickets.

Life has its ups and downs my friend, even just small ripples during the day.

at last the temp is back to the 80s. After two days of 100+ temps, it's a relief today. On tuesday my car thermometer said it was 109 degrees, yesterday it was 106 degrees. The second floor of our house felt like an oven. We thought to ourselves, maybe this is good practice for when we have our Philippine vacation.

I just read the news that an contract offer has been extended to Mark Madsen....he's not that much of an offensive player, but he sure doesnt back down on anyone, I remember Shaq posting up on him, and he was just standing his ground, all 6'9" of him.

I think Butler can start right away to replace Hughes and Chucky Atkins is a solid backup to Arenas. Don't get me wrong, it's very possible that Kwame will still become the dominant force under the Zen master, but at this point we all know that'll never happen so long as he was with the Wizards.

Larry Hughes is gone....I knew it was coming, the minute Michael Redd and Ray Allen signed max deals with their respective ball clubs. I knew Hughes would go for max money too and that the Wizards would be unable to afford him. I agree with Grunfeld, we can't tied up that much money on the big three. We need to find a real power forward, not a role player patrolling the paint. Good luck to Hughes, I'm not sure how good of a fit he is with Lebron, I guess we'll find out. In the mean time, we need to move Kwame, and now....it's Jarvis Hayes time!

yes, I've lost faith in her and philippine politics. for a president to admit calling the commission on elections to find out how to get a million vote lead is outright wrong. They may say no laws had been broken at that time. but that to me is intention to do something wrong. saying sorry just doesnt cut it. at this point, save face and step down..... staying in office just tells all the other politicians that it is ok to 'try' to cheat even if the cheating did not take place. staying in office tells the people, that their votes don't really count because they will just get padded by dirty politicians. staying in office will tell everyone that the Philippine government is hopeless. please give us a break.... ok so the other option is vp noli de castro....choose the lesser evil.........maybe just have a snap election.

we had a blast at yesterday's Pinoy Festival in Towson... thanks to all the bands who participated - angie pepa, crease, 3rdE, moonbugs, pi and nerojoc. thanks also to the katipunan who organized the event, and of course thanks to all those who came out to support us on a scorching not day.

it was an exhausting set for 3rdE. My guitar was full of sweat by the end of our last song, but it was ll worth it.

woke up too early today

woke up at 5am this morning, actually ian woke me up and I couldn't go back to sleep. I was able to ride the bike around the block, although my thighs cramped. I jsut need to exercise and get my leg back in condition. i was at work before 7am, this has to be the earliest I've ever been to work. feels nice though.

nba finals tonight, i dont think i will watch, until there's a must win game. i was hoping for a miami -phoenix matchup, but oh well.....

...hopefully for good. Dr. Henshaw told me yesterday that I could get off my crutches, and try walking with a cane for a couple of days, then walk on my own. I've been limping on my own, which is good. I can start swimming and riding the bike too.

it's back to work this week

it's back to work for me, I started work yesterday after 4 weeks off (a week early). The leg is doing good, and I am optimistic that this would be my last procedure. It's held up so far.

so on to the important stuff- the experts are not giving the wizards a chance against the heat. I'd have to agree with them, but I think the Wizards will steal at least one game from them. I don't smell sweep. we'll see how they play out tonight, it'd be interesting to see how Jamison's knee holds up.

I'm back, it's been almost two weeks since my surgery. I'm doing well but I'm still confined to the house. I'll see my doctor on Thursday and we'll go from there.

surgery-
Dr. Henshaw basically removed the cement and two metal rods from my leg , and replaced them with antibiotic beads to combat the infection. Hopefully this will be last leg surgery, I'm tired of this (it's my 4th you know). I was luck enough to stay in a private room at the hospital and they just installed something really cool. They had this new enterntainment system where you could browse the internet, check your hotmail, watch movies on demand, play games. It was really great, like something you would find in a hotel. The internet was really slow though and sometimes it would not connect, but I think they'll get it right soon.

recovery- I'm just at home with my crutches. My beautiful wife is taking care of me.

skins- why did we draft another QB in the first round? I think it's a big mistake if we're grooming Ramsey to be the QB of the future.

wizards- great job getting into the playoffs, they lost the first round to the baby bulls, but that's ok. I think it will be a tight playoff series, I think Washington still has good chance to advance. I just don't know why all of a sudden Arenas stopped attacking the basket. It was a good night for Kwame though, hopefully his sprain is nothing.

3rdE- nothing's happening while I'm recovering, just tinkering around with Audacity and see if I get the insipiration to write some tuines....maybe I should write about my leg.

2 more days to go, and I'm dreading the surgery. I may not be able to blog in a while so might as well get it all out now.

Belated happy birthday to Ian- my son celebrated his 1st birthday yesterday.

things to do- ok still need to fix the MB bed. need to locate every nail pop in our house, and what else?? I think I got most stuff covered.

wizards- 5 game slide, I sure hope we make it to the playoffs, which I have no doubt in my mind we will. It's just that we need not fall below 6th seed otherwise it will be Detroit or Miami in the first round and that will spell doom for the young wizards. Also, you can't go into the playoffs with a losing streak, we have to start playing D. My message to Eddie Jordan, stop giving the ball to Kwame and Etan. The have no low post moves, they expose the ball to the worst of defenders. Let them get their points off put backs.

skins- nothing's happening, I hope taylor and moss start attending those voluntary workouts. like Randy Thomas said those 'voluntary' workouts are like the times when it's your annoversary and your wife tells you not to get her anything, and you get home and you have nothing- you know you're in trouble. It's the unwritten law- get to work Moss and Taylor....

weather is great, too bad I'd be on crutches the whole of spring and into summer. Hopefully I recover faster than when I first had my leg surgery 3 years ago.

gigs- our next gig will be on June 12th at the Filipino Fiesta in Towson (Towson Courthouse Plaza). Details to follow soon, not sure what time yet, but it will be sometime in the afternoon. If you have time, please support some of the gigs I've helped organize: April 23 at Frazier's on the Avenue and May 7 at The Royal. 3rdE won't be playing those nights but our friends will be (Moonbugs, PI, Nerojoc, Inu).

replace the slk's snow tires to summer tires
finish ins papers
finish the house's 6 month inspection papers

install the last safety gate
install babyproofing of kitchen cabinets
disassemble crib in Ian's room

did you watch 'The Office' on NBC last night? It was hilarious, finally a show I could relate to. My wife likes watching Scrubs and ER, that's cos she's an RN. At last, a show about a regular office (of course their env is not as cool as advertising.com), remember that movie 'office space' --fun stuff.

ok, granted we're at the number 4 spot in the east, holding a one game lead over the cavs. but with the story from the post today, Larry hughes blasted jordan for not sticking to the original game plan. Is this the start of a dissent from the coaching staff? you gotta wonder.

hughes was complaining that they have been trying to score from the low post with kwame and etan, rathern than score from the perimeter. Jordan was emphasizing that with the injuries to jamison, dixon, peeler and hayes, the perimeter game is hampered. So the next best thing to do is tweak the offense and post up down low with the return of etan thomas and kwame brown.

I don't know, you'd have to choose between two evils. But I don't like the fact when thomas and brown post-up, they don't seem comfortable with the ball in their hands. They have this uneasy dribble that exposes the ball to the weakest of defenders. I'd have to side with hughes on this. Let kwame and etan get their points of put-backs, let the perimeter carry the scoring load and give the ball down low to haywood from time to time.
